Spirelytha kashirtsevi was named by Archbold (1993). Its type specimen is CPC 24231, a shell (Conjoined natural cast), and it is a cast. Its type locality is BMR MG232, Hill Springs Homestead, which is in an Artinskian marine shale in the Quinnanie Formation of Australia.
