Thuringothyris was named by Boy and Martens (1991). It is not extant. Its type is Thuringothyris mahlendorffae.
It was assigned to Protorothyrididae by Boy and Martens (1991) and Martens et al. (2005); and to Eureptilia by Müller et al. (2006).
