Taxonomy
Hypergoniatites was named by Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is not extant. Its type is Hypergoniatites exiguus.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Goniatitinae by Korn (2006); and to Goniatitidae by Korn et al. (1999), Furnish et al. (2009) and Korn and Sudar (2016).
