Isodectes obtusus

Taxonomy

Dendrerpeton obtusum was named by Cope (1868). Its type specimen is AMNH 6928, a partial skull (palate), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.

It was recombined as Tuditanus obtusus by Cope (1875) and Hay (1902); it was recombined as Saurerpeton obtusum by Romer (1947); it was recombined as Isodectes obtusus by Sequeira (1998), Schoch (2013) and Schoch and Milner (2014).

Synonyms

Pariotichus megalops was named by Cope (1883). Its type specimen is AMNH 4329, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Indian Creek, 35 (Arroyo Formation), which is in a Kungurian terrestrial claystone/sandstone in the Arroyo Formation of Texas. It is the type species of Isodectes.

It was recombined as Isodectes megalops by Cope (1896), Hay (1902), Case (1911) and Hay (1930); it was synonymized subjectively with Isodectes obtusus by Sequeira (1998) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
Sauropleura latithorax was named by Cope (1897). Its type specimen is USNM 4471, a partial skull (skull and posterior trunk incl. limbs), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.

It was recombined as Saurerpeton latithorax by Moodie (1909); it was synonymized subjectively with Saurerpeton obtusum by Romer (1947); it was synonymized subjectively with Isodectes obtusus by Schoch and Milner (2014).
Acheloma casei was named by Broili (1913). Its type specimen is a specimen in the BSP (catalogue number unknown; probably lost during bombing of Munich in 1944), a partial skull (posterior portion), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Coffee Creek, 34 (Arroyo Formation), which is in a Kungurian terrestrial claystone/sandstone in the Arroyo Formation of Texas.

It was recombined as Eobrachyops casei by Watson (1956); it was synonymized subjectively with Isodectes obtusus by Sequeira (1998) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
Eobrachyops townendae was named by Watson (1956). Its type specimen is AMNH 2455, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.
