Heterocoenia minima was named by Morycowa (1971). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Valea Izvorul Alb, Rarau area, NE Romania, which is in an Aptian shallow subtidal marl in Romania.
It was corrected as Heterocoenia minuta by Morycowa and Marcopoulou-Diacantoni (2002).
