Kirsoceras was named by Bogoslovsky (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m Sepkoski's reference number: 1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Tornoceras rotundatum. It is the type genus of Kirsoceratidae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kirsoceratidae by Korn and Klug (2002) and Korn (2006).
