Cypricardella oblonga was named by Hall (1856). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Microdon (Cypricardella) oblonga by Whitfield (1882); it was recombined as Microdon oblonga by Cummings and Beede (1906); it was recombined as Edon oblonga by Hoare (2007).
