Taxonomy
Lusitanites was named by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. Its type is Goniatites subcircularis.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Neoglyphioceratinae by Furnish et al. (2009); and to Neoglyphioceratidae by Kuzina and Yatskov (1990), Korn (2006) and Korn and Sudar (2016).
