Mexicoceras was named by Ruzhencev (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Prolecanitida by Tazawa et al. (2005); to Cyclolobidae by Bogoslovskaya (1990) and Korn (2006); and to Kufengoceratinae by Zhao (1980) and Furnish et al. (2009).
