Gastornis edwardsi was named by Lemoine (1878) [see Martin 1983 (in Brush and Clark) for a discussion of the type specimen, which includes other material that is a composite of avian, fish, turtle, champsosaur, and crocodile-like reptile elements]. It is a 3D body fossil.
