Nevadoceras was named by Schiappa et al. (1995). Its type is Nevadoceras steelei.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Adrianitinae by Schiappa et al. (1995) and Furnish et al. (2009); and to Emilitinae by Leonova (2002), Korn (2006) and Leonova and Boiko (2015).
