Taxonomy

Dasyhelea was named by Kieffer (1913). It is extant. It is the type genus of Dasyheleinae.

It was assigned to Ceratopogonidae by Carpenter (1992) and Park and Downing (2001); to Dasyheleinae by Szadziewski (1988), Borkent and Wirth (1997), Sontag and Szadziewski (2011), Borkent (2013) and Szadziewski (2019); and to Dasyheleini by Szadziewski and Grogan (1998), Borkent and Dominiak (2020) and Borkent et al. (2022).
