Taxonomy

Mycetophila was named by Meigen (1803). It is extant. It is the type genus of Mycetophilidae, Mycetophilinae, Mycetophilini.

It was assigned to Mycetophilidae by Scudder (1877), Aldrich (1905) and Carpenter (1992); to Mycetophilini by Matile (1989) and Rindal et al. (2009); and to Mycetophilinae by Johannsen (1909) and Oliveira and Amorim (2021).

Synonyms

Mycothera was named by Winnertz (1863). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Mycetophila by Evenhuis (1994).

It was assigned to Mycetophilidae by Aldrich (1905); and to Mycetophilinae by Johannsen (1909).
