Taxonomy
Lasioptera was named by Meigen (1818). It is extant. It is the type genus of Lasiopteridi.

It was assigned to Cecidomyidae by Aldrich (1905); to Cecidomyiidae by Scudder (1877), Scudder (1890) and Carpenter (1992); and to Lasiopterini by Gagné and Jaschhof (2014).
