Rhymmoceras was named by Ruzhencev (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Rhymmoceratidae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhymmoceratidae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009) and Korn and Sudar (2016).
