Taxonomy
Cravenoceras (Richardsonites) was named by Elias (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. Its type is Gastrioceras richardsonianum.

It was reranked as Richardsonites by Titus (2000), Sepkoski (2002), Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Cravenoceras by Elias (1956); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Glaphyritidae by Korn (2006); and to Glaphyritinae by Titus (2000) and Furnish et al. (2009).
