Terebratula decurtata was named by Girard (1843).

It was recombined as Rhynchonella decurtata by Bittner (1890), Arthaber (1915) and Ogilvie Gordon (1927); it was recombined as Decurtella decurtata by Dagys (1974), Pálfy (1988) and Urosevic et al. (1992).
