Provelosaurus americanus
Taxonomy
Pareiasaurus americanus was named by Araújo (1985). Its type specimen is UFRGS 0231P, a partial skull (cranium lacking lower jaw), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bagé-Aceguá Highway, Provelosaurus type, which is in a Roadian/Capitanian terrestrial horizon in the Rio do Rasto Formation of Brazil.
It was recombined as Provelosaurus americanus by Lee (1987), Lee (1997) and Cisneros et al. (2005).
