Ragas was named by Walker (1837). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ragadidae.
It was assigned to Empididae by Aldrich (1905), Carpenter (1992) and Sinclair and Cumming (2006); and to Ragadinae by Wahlberg and Johanson (2018).
