Taxonomy

Dolichopus was named by Latreille (1796). It is extant. It is the type genus of Dolichopodidae, Dolichopodinae.

It was assigned to Diptera by Latreille (1796); to Tabanii by Latreille (1802); to Dolichopidae by Scudder (1878); to Dolichopinae by Aldrich (1905); to Dolichopodidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Dolichopodinae by Statz (1940) and Pollet et al. (2004).

Synonyms

Hygroceleuthus was named by Loew (1857). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Dolichopus by Pollet et al. (2004).
