Texoceras was named by Miller and Furnish (1940) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon]. Its type is Agathiceras texanum.
It was assigned to Emilitinae by Leonova and Bogoslovskaya (1990); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Texoceratinae by Leonova (2002), Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
