Tornia was named by House (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m Sepkoski's reference number: 1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Protornoceras mirabile.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kirsoceratidae by Korn and Klug (2002) and Korn (2006).
