Taxonomy
Heliopora mexicanae was named by Frost and Langenheim (1974). Its type locality is Copoya TM-1, which is in a Lutetian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the San Juan Formation of Mexico.
It was recombined as Leptomussa mexicanae by López-Pérez (2005).
