Taxonomy
Waagenina was named by Krotow (1888) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Guad]. It is not extant. Its type is Waagenina subinterrupta.

It was synonymized subjectively with Stacheoceras by Furnish et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Neostacheoceratinae by Bogoslovskaya (1990), Leonova (2002), Korn (2006) and Leonova (2018).
