Taxonomy
Winchelloceras was named by Ruzhencev (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 304]. It is not extant. Its type is Goniatites allei.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Girtyoceratidae by Korn (2006); and to Girtyoceratinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
