Taxonomy
Sicanites was named by Gemmellaro (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1251]. It is the type genus of Sicanitinae.

It was assigned to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sicanitinae by Leonova (1989), Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009) and Zhou (2017).
