Taxonomy
Epicanites was named by Schindewolf (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Bash-l Sepkoski's reference number: 304,1251]. It is not extant. Its type is Paraprolecanites sandbergeri.

It was assigned to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Epicanitinae by Korn (2006); and to Daraelitidae by Furnish et al. (2009).
