Parapronorites was named by Gemmellaro (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1251].

It was assigned to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pronoritidae by Leonova (1989) and Leonova (2002); and to Neopronoritinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009) and Zhou (2017).
