Pseudopronorites was named by Nassichuk (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u C Step-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1251]. Its type is Pronorites arkansasensis.

It was assigned to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pronoritinae by Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
