Taxonomy
Nyctiphruretus acudens was named by Efremov (1938). Its type specimen is PIN 158/5, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kiselikha, PIN 158, Lower Mezen' River, which is in a Kazanian/Urzhumian terrestrial horizon in the Russian Federation.

Diagnosis

I. A. Efremov 1938Skull short with huge orbits and bluntly rounded snout. Nostrils close to one another and separated by a narrow partition. The bones of the skull roof are sculptured radially.
The occipital surface is obliquely turned backwards with temporal cavities and occipital lateral processes wanting. Teeth erect with bluntly apexes, without any traces of differentiation.. Bones of the ventral surfaces of the skull are covered with chagreen relief, and besides there are 4 nearly straight tooth rows on each pterygoideum.
