Syrdenites was named by Nassichuk et al. (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 1251]. Its type is Syrdenites stoyanowi.

It was assigned to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Medlicottiinae by Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
