Taxonomy
Acanthinites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Tr Nori-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Acanthinites excelsus.

It was assigned to Cyrtopleuritidae by Spath (1951) and Tozer (1981); to Cyrtopleuritinae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
