Taxonomy
Lyrodon ovatum was named by Goldfuss (1838).

It was recombined as Myophoria ovata by Lepsius (1878), Bittner (1901), Ogilvie Gordon (1927) and Leonardi (1935); it was recombined as Myophoria (Leviconcha) ovata by Waagen (1907), Gu et al. (1976) and Chen (1982); it was recombined as Neoschizodus ovatus by Giebel (1856) and Neri and Posenato (1985).
