Spirifer corculum was named by Kutorga (1844).

It was recombined as Martinia corcula by Glushenko (1975); it was misspelled as Martinia corcula by Liao (1979); it was recombined as Martinia corculum by Tschernyschew (1902), Keidel (1906), Mansuy (1913), Reed (1944) and Kalashnikov (1998).
