Astrea castellum was named by Michelin (1843).

It was recombined as Stylina castellum by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1857); it was recombined as Cryptocoenia castellum by Koby (1881); it was recombined as Adelocoenia castellum by Orbigny (1850) and Lathuilière et al. (2020).
