Rhipidia was named by Meigen (1818). It is extant. Its type is Ammonites deverioides.
It was assigned to Tipulidae by Aldrich (1905) and Cockerell (1917); to Limoniidae by Evenhuis (1994); and to Limoniinae by Podenas and Poinar (1999) and Kania (2015).
