Caucasites was named by Shevyrev (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Sepkoski's reference number: 302].

It was assigned to Japonitidae by Tozer (1981); to Japonitinae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
