Taxonomy
Clionitites was named by Strand (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is the type genus of Clionitidae.

It was assigned to Clionititidae by Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
