Taxonomy
Clydonites was named by Hauer (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Goniatites decoratus. It is the type genus of Clydonitaceae.

It was assigned to Clydonitidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
