Taxonomy
Cochloceras was named by Hauer (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Cochloceras fischeri. It is the type genus of Cochloceratidae.

It was assigned to Cochloceratidae by Spath (1951) and Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
