Nymphomyiidae was named by Tokunaga (1932). It is extant. Its type is Nymphomyia.

It was assigned to Blephariceromorpha by Wagner et al. (2000) and Yeates et al. (2007); to Nymphomyiomorpha by Pape et al. (2011); and to Diptera by Wiegmann et al. (2011).
