Arca nucleus was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; North Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Nucula nucleus by Lamarck (1799), Wood (1850) and Coan et al. (2000); it was recombined as Nucula (Nucula) nucleus by Huber (2010).
