Dimorphites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Juvavites (Dimorphites) selectus.

It was reranked as Juvavites (Dimorphites) by McLearn (1940).

It was assigned to Juvavites by McLearn (1940); to Haloritidae by Spath (1951); to Juvavitinae by Tozer (1981); to Juvavitidae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
