Taxonomy
Eogymnites was named by Spath (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Japonites arthaberi.

It was assigned to Japonitidae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gymnitidae by Spath (1951), Kummel (1969) and Brayard et al. (2009).
