Epiceltitoides was named by Guex (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Epiceltitoides epiceltitoides.

It was assigned to Columbitidae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paragoceratidae by Brayard et al. (2009).
