Eupinacoceras was named by Spath (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Pinacoceras subimperator.

It was assigned to Pinacoceratidae by Spath (1951) and Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
