Taxonomy
Acaenitus was named by Latreille (1809). It is extant. It is the type genus of Acoenitoidae, Acaenitini.

It was assigned to Pimplinae by Brues (1906) and Meunier (1923); to Ichneumonidae by Carpenter (1992); to Acaenitinae by Wahl (2014); and to Acaenitini by Klopfstein et al. (2019).
