Gevanites was named by Parnes (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-u Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Gevanites awadi.

It was assigned to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hungaritidae by Tozer (1981) and Pérez Valera (2005).
