Taxonomy
Trochosmilia nodosa was named by Wade (1926). Its type locality is Dave Weeks place, Coon Creek, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone in the Ripley Formation of Tennessee.

It was recombined as Wadeopsammia nodosa by Wells (1933).
