Hyolithes aplatus was named by Resser and Endo (1937) [COMMENTS: Poor preservation of type specimens for this species renders it's diagnosis incomplete and it's generic identifications doubtful. TAPHONOMY: This species is represented by nondescript and featureless impressions of conchs scattered randomly upon several pieces of shale.]. Its type specimen is USNM 86716-A, a shell, and it is an impression.
